So, it's 11.00pm and we're surrounded by "things ready to pack" and wondering if they will ever get in the bags on time for our depart tomorrow! Reading Ruth and Richard's Blogs has helped us to start to journey in our minds - to begin to look ahead ; we're looking forward to meeting the team already at Hands@Work and waiting and wondering what God will show us and teach us as we seek to listen to our sisters and brothers in Africa. Friends and family who are reading this Blog - we invite you to journey with us. When Pat (a Midwife) delivers the Walkers to the airport  - the birthing begins!

Packing and Planning for Departure

Reading the Colton Team and Ruth Clay's comments from their South Africa visit and wondering what to pack - minus 2 in the morning and blanket distribution after church! Better dig out another fleece to squeeze in the bag.

Finalising cover arrangements at All Saints and looking for someone to set up for services on Saturday and open up the church at 7.30am on Sunday for visiting priests.

Just written August article for the Parish Magazine. Have been reflecting on journeying and God's promises to us in Isaiah 43:1-7. God calls us by name to journey with him, God promises protection to those who journey with him and God promises to call the people who journey with him home.

15 July 2014

Went to post office today to try to organise an International Driving Licence - straight forward I thought, then discovered nearest post office to offer this service was in the centre of Birmingham ! bother thought I, lots of hassle to drive in, park and walk to get the application in. Decided to organise this on line via the AA. Sorted and posted application off - job done in less thirty minuets. Then thought about the people we will be visiting in SA and the journeys some make every day without transport and of their communication without mobile phones, the internet, printers and photocopiers. So much choice and so much I take for granted - I am sure we have a great deal to learn.

Out and about with the Walkers - counting down to departure

I have always loved journaling - so feel quite at home reflecting on our visit to Hands@Work in South Africa . I am struck by the wonderful way in which All Saints' stepped out in faith, and said "yes" to the diocesan project, Closing the Gap. This developing relationship has led already to such rich learning. In conversation with our partner church St Gabriel's, we both spotted a gap in our overseas commitment to those living in poverty. This encouraged us to explore opportunities with the Diocesan Director of World Mission. In the conversations that followed, we have been reunited with friends and experienced such kindness, grace and overwhelming ,generosity from the community of Streetly and friends further afield. The Walker family, Glynn, Mandy, Amelia (12) Oscar (10) go as a letter sent in love from the community of All Saints' Streetly to listen, to learn and share of ourselves.... what an adventure!

Not long to go

Hi guys and we have not got long to go! We are all getting really excited and can't wait! We have heard from everyone else that have been before us and they have all said it is a really worthwhile project. Thankyou for all the comments and views!
